Either because our primary track is about real-world applications (whether they be commercial or not), or because I've done a good job at fund raising, we've got a potential problem.
http://answerpot.com/showthread.php?2782871-YAPC%3A%3ANA+2012
The last response on that page says that the guy isn't coming because we're making YAPC too commercial this year. The problem is that I don't know whether this is an isolated thing (this one guy), or if there is some sort of sentiment in the greater Perl community.
The truth, of course, is that we're no more business-centric than YAPC has ever been. Is this something I should address in the blog? Or do you think this opinion is from a rather small group of potential attendees? On that one list alone 4 out of 5 people said they'd be attending, so that seems good.
Thoughts?

Mark seems to be responding to the main track of 'real world' applications.
I suspect he is looking for something specifically for the perl development
community. Perhaps a good approach would be to encourage people to
come to the conference because they have something to offer ( besides
a talk ) rather than what they can receive. I hope there are not many
people who take his attitude because that could be part of the cause
for the dwindling community.

if it is all of the advertising that is the issue
then some discussion about how much
money TPF will get from the advertisers.

The scheduled talks will contradict him.

Yeah, that would be my 'take-away' from that; though, looked at the
other way - 20% concerned opinions isn't peanuts. My guess is it was
an early brush w/ your fundraising success, but that it (the
over-commercial) concern will be ameliorated by the continuing posts.
2 other points, though, from that though
1) lots of 'part of a family vacation' plans, so do we have a "what
else do in/around Madison/in Wisconsin that's really cool" (Door
County/Washington Isle, the Dells (?some folks love it ...?)
Milwaukee/Chicago museums (though Chi. probably doesn't need our help)
Ice Age bike trail, Wi river, etc. etc. Might help some folks
convince the other half to go along.
2) Maybe get other folks to blog/chime in on why/what they're going to
YAPC for this year. I'd not thought of family vacation, so there's
probably other folks out there who have new reasons, too. Plus, if
you got @larry et alia. to give their view/reasons, we know what a
'celeb' driven culture we are in.

We've got tons of that stuff on the web site already, and more comping.

How do you get them to do anything? I've been blogging for over 6 months now and have gotten hardly any replies to anything.
