For all of you who have been participating in the YAPC Planning Meetings, I need your shirt size so that I can have the staff shirts made. This is the base shirt:

http://www.dickies.com/mens-clothing/mens-shirts/Short-Sleeve-Work-Shirt-1574.jsp

They'll be embroidered with the YAPC staff logo.  If you want a staff shirt, please let me know your size before the end of the week.

Well if you plan to be one of the mentors for the Zero to Perl workshop then I'd say that's a huge help and therefore deserving of a shirt. =)

Hello hello.  I'm more or less new here.  I'm Sean, I've been to one madmongers meeting (in Feb I think).  This mentoring Zero to Perl caught my eye.  What is it?  Is it running a class or is it giving feedback on neophyte perl or?

We've got brian d foy the world renowned Perl trainer coming to teach people how to program in Perl. So it starts with simple data structures, then moves through all the normal programming stuff like loops, conditionals, subroutines and eventually to objects. He'll be teaching it the two days before YAPC (June 11th and 12th).

If you want to take the course, you can sign up here: http://act.yapcna.org/2012/purchase

Or if you want to be a mentor for the course, then you just let me know. Being a mentor is basically being a teacher's aide. You're there to help people who are struggling overcome the problems they encounter. Our goal is to have one mentor for every two to three students, so that brian can keep the class moving along at a rapid pace.

Being a mentor at Zero2Perl not only entitles you to our awesome staff shirt, but you'll also get in to YAPC for free.

I'd be interested in helping in the Zero2Perl course if you're still looking for people.
Is it just a "day-of" obligation, or would I have to do anything in the time leading up to the week of YAPC? Unfortunately, I've moved, so getting to Madison outside of the week of YAPC would be pretty inconvenient. If it only requires me to do stuff during YAPC (and the two days before), then I'd be happy to help.

Also, are you still looking for sponsorship?

We're always looking for sponsors.  More information about the levels of sponsorship can be found here: http://www.yapcna.org/sponsorship/levels-of-sponsorship

And yes, the only commitment for being a Z2P mentor is to have Monday and Tuesday (June 11,12) free so you can sit with students and help them learn. No commitments before or after that.

I thought I had sent this before, but there's no record of it in my sent stuff, so, trying again:

I would like to do the perl mentoring.  How do I sign up for that?  Is mentoring sign-up on the act.yapcna.org site?

You just signed up!

Be at the Pyle Center by 8:30am on June 11th. The workshop will be in room 226 (on the second floor in the back of the building).  If you have any questions between now and then, post them here.
